What is the basic unit of matter?

 

atoms

Covalent and Compound Bonds
What are organic compounds?
consist of covalenty landed carbon atoms and often include other elements especially hydrogen

What are macromoleclues?

 

a molecule containing a very large number of atoms, such as a protein, nucleic acid, or synthetic polymer.
Name and describe the 4 types of macromoleclues? How are they important to life?
Protiens, Nucleic Acids, Carbohydrates, & Lipids
Name and describe the different spheres of Earth
Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, & Lithosphere

Positive VS. Negative Feedback

 

Negative: results in slatiteration of a system.

 

Positive: results in a system moving to an extrem

What are nutrients?
Matter that organisms require for life processes
What elements make up water?
Hydrogen & oxygen atoms
Name and describe the different water properties
Cohesion, Resistance to temp. change, Less dense when frozen, ability to dissolve many other moleclues.

What is a consumer?

What is a producer?

Consumer: organisms that must eat other organisms to obtain nutrients 

 

Producer: organisms that are able to produce their own food

What is eutrophication?
addition of phosphorus to bodies of water can lead to an overgrowth of producers.
What is nitrogen fixation?
the conversion of nitrogen gas into ammonia
Describe the pH scale
measures how acidic or basic a solutuion is

What are acids?

What are bases?

Acids: relatively high in conentration of H+

 

Bases: relatively high in conentration of OH-

Name and describe plate boundaries

 

crashing boundaries, divergatent boundaries, & transformation boundaries
