DCPI

Communications and Public Information (DCPI) is one of eight UNEP divisions.

 

In charge of communicating the core messages of UNEP’s policies.

DEWA

Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA) is one of eight divisions of the UNEP.

Responsible for analyzing the environment globally, and then based on that analysis, provide early warning information and global and regional environmental trend assessments to its members.

DEC

Environmental Conventions (DEC) – one of eight divisions of the UNEP. ;

Works to ensure the sustainability of ecosystem services.;

DEC is tasked with the implementation of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs)

GEF

Global Environment Facility (GEF) Coordination – one of eight divisions of the UNEP.

Helps developing countries and those with poorer economies to meet environmental goals in six areas.

DPDL

Policy Development and Law (DPDL) – one of eight divisions of UNEP

Guides governments and international communty members in developing integrated and sound environmental policies in response to problems, strengthening environmental law worldwide, and improving compliance with and enforcement of the policies and laws

DEPI
Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) – One of eight divisions of UNEP.

Provides technical assistance and policy advisory services services to international partners. The goal is to strengthen environmental policies in countries with poorer economies.

DRC

Regional Cooperation (DRC) -;one of eight divisions of UNEP

DRC coordinates the work of UNEP’s regional offices

DTIE

Technology, Industry, Economics (DTIE) – one of eight divisions of UNEP

 

Works with everyone worldwide to develop and implement policies and practices that are cleaner and safer for the environment.  Use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution, decrease risks for humans and environment.

IPCC

United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 

 

Established by UNEP and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide clear, scientific view of the current state of global climate change.

IPCC three working groups are:

  1. Physical Science Basis of Climate Change
  2. Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability
  3. Mitigation of Climate Change

Organization that globally represents the engineering consulting industry.  Promote sustainable development.

The Green Grid
Global organization of IT companies and professionals working to decrease the demand for power, cooling, and space in ID data centers.
IP3
Established in 1960 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization for smaller national information-processing organizations that work toward common goals of industry competence, professionalism, and ethics.  The International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) is a 2006 initiative of IFIP which guides its members to use information technology to benefit the maximum number of people and to promote professionalism and ethics worldwide in the industry.
EPA
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)  goals of repairing the damage to our natural environment and establishing new guidelines to help Americans create a cleaner environment going forward.
EPA employs engineers, scientists, and policy analysts to:

  1. Conduct environmental studies
  2. Develop and enforce regulations
  3. Educate about the environment

GCIO

Joint venture of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. ;Setup by the EPA to assist consumers in purchasing energy-efficient products.

CSCI
Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI) – nonprofit organization of environmentally conscious consumers, businesses, and conservation organizations. ;Started by Google and Intel in 2007. ;Goal to improve effciency of a computer’s power system.  Bronze, Silver, Gold.
WEEE
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) – Directive requirements were a 2003 mandate of the European Union.  WEEE places the responsibility for electronic waste disposal on the manufacturer, not the consumer.
GEC
Green Electronics Council (GEC) – Founded in 2005 to manage EPEAT.
TCO certification
Series of IT and office equipment certifications designed to limit environmentally hazardous materials and increase energy efficiency in products.  Based in Stockholm, Sweden.  To be labeled TCO-certified products must meet Usability and Environmental standards.
